中国新西兰自由贸易协定对中国公民在纽工作的规定
中纽自由贸易协定于2008年4月7日在北京签订，该协定对中国公民前往新西兰工作做出了具体的规定。根据协议规定，从2008年10月1日起，中国人可以在两种情形下来新西兰工作，一种是技术类的一共1800名配额，其中又详细分类：100名导游、150名武术教练、150名普通话教师、200名厨师、200名传统中医。另外1000名为各种短缺专业技术人员，包括：

他们无需经过劳务力市场测试可以在新西兰工作长达3年。根据协议，这些人士来纽工作没有英语要求（但未必没有注册要求）。
现在约有85000外籍人士持工签在纽从事各种工作，因此1800名中国人加入此队伍不算太大的数目。至于相对中国庞大的劳务市场而言，这1800人更是九牛一毛。
另一种途径是在1800人的技术工人配额之外，所有18到30岁的中国年轻人可以申请来新西兰打工度假（working holidays），每年配额为1000人，可在纽居留12个月。申请人的条件是要求学历相当于本地7年级（相当于中国高中文化）以上，健康、品行、语言，财力达到要求。他们到新西兰后可以上学，也可以打工，但明确规定不能从事性行业，不能做永久合同的工作，并不得为同一个雇主打工时间超过3个月。
