My different perspective on the sample Issue task

Exemplary Issue
2008, July, 30  21:26-23:28

“In our time, specialists of all kinds are highly over-rated. We need more generalists – people who can provide broad perspectives.”

Specialists refer to the people who concentrate their time mainly on specific area or certain program without even thinking about changing their directions. They may spend five years or ten years or a life time on the chosen job and it is difficult or impossible for them to change to another job not related to their original profession. Typical specialists are physicists, doctors and nurses, drivers, carpenters, craftsmen, professors and teachers. Unlike specialists, generalists are more outgoing and more flexible in choosing their jobs. They have strong abilities in communication and making decisions, and they are suitable to any different positions related to management or leadership. Typical generalists are company mangers, school masters, government officials and CEOs. Now days, generalists are in great needed while the media often claim the lack of person who not only know how to concentrate on one special area but the other necessary knowledges as well. It seems our society is crowded of specialists walking on the street without rules and orders assigned by generalists. Is that so? I rather doubt it with the following questions.
Is it true that specialists are too many to be special?
Specialists have helped us in many ways throughout history: from giant dams to light bulbs are all the work of specialists. Because of this, the craze on specialists beginning last century has not been diminished till this day. Crowds of specialists truly did a significant progress in helping developing the society. But the questions is do we need more progresses and developments helped by specialists? Do we want the technologies grow faster and more conveniently? Are there so many scientists in different certain areas fully providing the life style we have dreamed so long? If not, we do need more specialists, especially the top specialists.
Why, now days, there is a great need in generalists?
First of all, we have to admite the fact that the number of generalists, compare with specialists, are not enough and they are needed by almost every country and company. This is not easy to explain by such a short paragraph, but I will give you three reasons to demonstrate my persuasive thinking. First, the increasing number of specialists is the main reason for the lack of generalists due to the reason that several specialists must be managed, ruled or led by the generalists. Second, it is even harder to become generalists due to the different situation in different are than to become specialists. For example, a schoolmaster must know one or two subjects before he/she is qualified to be the master, which will cost him/her more time. Thirdly, work in management and leadership is a relative new skill and career compare with the work in special areas some of which has been known for thousands of years.
Then, what we should do due to the current circumstance?
We must increase the member of generalists first to solve the emergent need. We should, in the first place, encourage young people to aim at this splendid high-salary job as well as our school, no matter college or high school, should add this subject to the routine curriculum. Furthermore, for the companies and management administrations, training the exist specialists the needed skill to become generalist is an efficient and cheaper way. Lastly, we should remind the society through newspapers and televisions that what kind of person we need in order to active the powerful strength of citizens.
In the end, I would like to summarize my opinion that both specialists and generalists are in great need, and we should do something to change this situation by informing society the serious need of these people. By doing so, we hopefully will help both the current generation and future generations a better choice in choosing their careers.

======================
argu分析
ETS:
