Learning from and communicating with other people are of great consequence in enriching our knowledge and fostering our mind. In most cases, we can always learn a lot from other people no matter what their attitudes are to our ideas. Therefore, I can only agree with author's assertiong insofar as that we can learn much from people whose views we share. In my opinion learning from people whose views contradict our own is equally important.
There goes an old saying that great minds think alike. It is essential to learn from people who share our ideas, which not only enhance our thoughts but also gives us confidence to our own belief.
However, only learning from people who share our ideas is like walking in dark and can lead us to wrong direction before we even kown it. The vital thing is to listen to different vioces.
Becaue in most cases the people who have different views than ours must also have good reasons to stick to their own ideas, for example maybe they are seeing the issue from a different angle. We can learn a lot from them even though we do not agree with them. In certain field like arts and literature, there is always no truth that everyone can accept, which means that artists should definitely pay much attention to the works of different genre or even different art form to get inspiration and new ways to express the content. Film as an art form absorbed many factors form other art form like music, beaux-arts, sculpture and so on, which is why this young art is so charming and compelling.
When it comes to science, it is even more important to communicate with and learn from your critics as scientific problems we cope with are somes time so complicated that one man always can not takes in count all fators and makes a prefect explanation. Einstein, the great phsicist, spent most his time critisizing his own theory because he really had learnt much from his critic. He realized that his theory has some drawbacks and can not comply with new theories when he took a good look at theories that contraduct his.
If we look at the history, we can see that the development of humen society is fall of contradiction-like contradiction between religion and science-and in some degree is the consequence of contraction. Disagreement always leads to arguing and conflict of minds, which are conducive to individuals and society as well. On some level the society is always pushed to a new stage by a great men that see things beyond his time. The prophets' theories-like Copernicus' thoery of heliocentric-are at all times against normal people's belief. It is important to advert to unusual ideas and thoughts even if they may be against normal belief or even common sense.
Admittedly, talking with some who do not agree with you can cause stress. Nevertheless, it really depends on one's attitude to contradiction that how much the stess would interfere the communication. Only if someone is magnanimous enough to accept other people's contradict and patient enouth to explanation his own thoughts to his critics, can he make efficient communication.
Listening to different vioces and absorbing different ideas and then ** our own judgement is the way to the truth.
