The government has published the 2008-2009 rates and allowances for Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions.

从08年4月份开始的2008/09税年，
英国税收政策的变化，Tax free Allowances从07－08税年(age under 65)的£5,225调整为£5,435
也就是说 每年有 £5,435的收入是不需要缴税的，比上一税年增加 +£210

Income tax - taxable bands
The starting rate of IncomeTax has been abolished and the basic rate has been cut from 22% to 20%creating a simpler structure of two rates .The tax bands have increasedin line with indexation.

基本税率 （应该大部分人是 Basic的吧 。。。） 从 22％ 调整到 20％。。。

EFFECTS OF TAX CHANGES
Winners:
Most people/ with incomes of £18,000+ 
Under £18,000 but aged 65+ and therefore eligible for higher personal allowances
Under £18,000 but with young children and therefore eligible for child tax credits
Losers:
Under £18,000 and ineligible for working tax credits because under 25
Retired early and therefore ineligible for higher personal allowances
Part-timer working insufficient hours to qualify for tax credits
Different personal circumstances may affect final amounts
