issue11 我跑题了吗?
11"All nations should help support thedevelopment of a global university designed to engage students in the processof solving the world's most persistent social problems."
It seems that , from a dialectic analysis ,anything has a dual nature that we cannot oversimplifies any issues andconclude any hasty judgement . as this issue the author presents us -- allnations should help support the development of a global university to solve theworld's most persistent social problems . some people will argue that this kindof global university cannot solve every problems effectively . however, i stillstrongly agree with the speaker's assertion based on both long-termconsideration and progmatic function . further more , my points of contentionwith the speaker involve insofar objectivity and nature of research ,asdiscussed below .
on one hand , the reason I strongly agreewith the speaker’s notion based on two factors . first , many social’s problemsin the world based on global influence , further more , the only way of solvingthe problems always relies on global cooperation . secondly , coperation ,as weknown , is an effective way to solve problems . in the realm of science isreplete with such compelling evidence . such as in the research of archeology ,it will introduce some scientific tools , requires many scientists in manyrealms . and global issues alike . based on these reasons ,
let’s place our discussion on some
concrete social problems .
global environment problem is our gravesocial problem . it consists of loss of biodiversity , global warming , and soon . many factors contribute to this problem . like the excessive usage offossil fuel in transportation and industry , decrease of forests , water pollution. and all these factors together contribute to global warm and species extinction whichwill finally threaten human’s survival . to study this problem well , one needglobal data concerning diverse influences in different countries no matter inthe research of species or climates , one
should share knowledge with each other . obove all , it can arouse allnations action to solve this problem together since this problem cannot besolved well if any nation escape his responsibility . to substantiate thisconclusion one need look no further than kyoto protocol .One year ago, the Kyoto Protocol enteredinto force, committing 160 Parties to the Protocol to emission reductions inorder to alleviate Climate Change. From this events , we see theimportance of global cooperation in solving global problems .
another serious social problem is globalpoverty . Poverty is the state for the majority of the world’s people andnations. Why is this? Is it enough to blame poor people for their ownpredicament?
Have their governmentpursued policies that actually harm successful development? Such causes ofpoverty and inequality are no doubt real. But deeper and more global causes ofpoverty are often less discussed. Behind the increasing interconnectedness promisedby globalization are global decisions, policies, and practices. These aretypically influenced, driven, or formulated by the rich and powerful. These canbe leaders of rich countries or other global actors such as multinationalcorporations, institutions, and influential people. In the face of such enormousexternal influence, the governments of poor nations and their people are oftenpowerless. As a result, in the global context, a few get wealthy while themajority struggle.
Thus , in my analysis , the way of sovlingthis problem cannot merely rely on one nation’s efforts , but many countrieshelp especially developed nations’ support . hence , we need a global research andcooperation to arouse all the people’s conscience .
The thirdth social problem is the impact offree trade . a famouse writter Mark twain once said (and as I paraphrase) :” Itis yet another Civilized Power, with its banner of the Prince of Peace in onehand and its loot-basket and its butcher-knife in the other.” This wordsprecisely portray the infulence of free trade and globalization . as he said ,the free trade and open market are coming under much criticism . the interestsof some few powerful nations and co. shape the form of the trade while harmsmost of people . let’s bring our discussion to a more present and practicalcontext . one telling historical example involes international diamond trade .many multinational co. plunge in this profiteering industry ,they importdiamond mainly from africa and it leads to some invalid treat and conflict there
,some of which trades even are stained withAfrican ’s blood, this is so-called “Blood diamond” coming from Hollywood filmwhich based on certain truth. in 2003,
many governments,NGO’S and all branches of theindustry work together and create the Kimberley Process-a model of public andprivate partnership to make sure the order of the market. From this case , wesee the merits of gobal research and cooperation .
On the other hand , I concede that somesocial problems cannot be sovled by global cooperation . to substantiate thisidea one need look no further than the conflict in Middle east . although manynations all over the world make a great effort to promote the peace in Middleeast , the lasting hundrend years’ conflict has never diminished in that it isdue to the diverse religion backdrop , this kind of speecial social problemswhich have distinctive local characteristic cannot well understood and copedwith by other nations , and also it is uncessary for other nations
to interfere which probably leads to rejectionand misunderstanding .
In my final analysis , anything isimperfect ,I cancede the fact that the gobal university cannot solve all thesocail problems . nvertheless , we need take all pains to seek for the objectof which benefits overwhelm its negative influence . thus , I strongly agreewith the sperker’s assertion based on what I have discussed obove .
接着,最重要的是,我引入这句话:let's place our discussion on some concrete social problems .
