In the mid-1960's a newly installed radar warning system mistook the rising of the moon as massive missile attack by Soviets.

我就一个问题：那个the rising of the moon 换成the rise of the moon 不是更好么？rise本身有名词含义啊？（这与答案对错无关，答案上那个选项有个更恶心的错误，所以选了一个the rising of the moon 的答案）

Rise 做名词的时候，意义和 rising 有点不同。那个分别是很细微的。the rising of the moon 着重的是月亮升起这个动作。

虽然 rise 和 rising 做名词时有很接近的意义，在这个语境里面却是不能用 the rise of the moon 的，因为 the rise of XX 通常的意义是“XX 的崛起”。要用 rise 的话就要说成这样 a moonrise。不过这样说就变成了“月出”，不是这句想要表达的意义。

这里应该是 mistook the rising of the moon to be a massive missile attack by the Soviets。
