这几天看PREP，有几道题都是跟to和for区别有关的，这几道题我都无法通过to和for的区别排除，基本都用了别的语法错误排除的。但我还是不知道这两个具体区别在哪里，查了一下英文网站说to has more sense of direction and for has just a sense of purpose，可是to do不是可以作为in order to do的省略形式表示目的吗？做题的时候我好像还是运用不好。这两个词到底怎么区分呢？找到一道相关的PREP题目，可供大家参考：
Organized in 1966 by the Fish and Wildlife Service, the Breeding Bird Survey uses annual roadside counts along established routes for monitoring of population changes of as many as, or of more than 250 bird species, including 180 songbirds.

(A) for monitoring of population changes of as many as, or of

答案是A，我在A和C之间徘徊了半天选了A，是因为那个changes in the population of 感觉不大好，实际上我自己也说不很清楚到底为啥，就是用语感选出来的

就是凭语感，没有什么窍妙的了。

不过 A 其实没有 C 那么好。这里的 for monitoring of 没有 to monitor 那么直接。A 还有一处不好，就是那个 changes of as many as, or of more than 250 bird species。我初看还以为是打错了！要表达这个意思，难道不可以说 changes of more than 249 bird species 么？其实这只是笼统的计算，何必故弄玄虚，假装懂数学？在这种文字里面 more than 250 bird species 与 more than 249 bird species 根本没有分别的。

我是选 C 的。

回到楼主的问题：英语介词好像汉语数量词（个、只、之类）一样，没有真正可以分辨的定义，只是习惯而已。所以一定要凭语感。

我没有觉得他在装懂啊，文章只是追求严谨，追求数量和实际情况更吻合而已吧。也许人目前只认识250，但实际存在超过这个数字可能性，他这样表达准确啊。

我就是骂他装严谨，以致写出这样坏的英文。想想，249 和 250 有什么差别？这又不是数学定理。如果真的要准确，大可以说 changes of more than 249 bird species。我前面说的，就是没有必要这样说。写得这样累赘，正是想让人以为准确，其实只给人讨厌的印象。

貌似我看的prep 答案选c。。。我觉得a很不好，for monitoring of population changes ，这个monitoring 如果是名词， 要加the ，如果做for doing，后面不应该加of，应直接加宾语， 结构很奇怪，而且polulation change还是change in population规范，这和increase in是一个道理

同意你的意见。Asrgbf 同志有些失于偏激。其实原文的理解就是：“。。。对于多达、抑或超过250种。。。”，而非249/250。不过，确实这样的文体是书面的，“迂”一些。有可能给人以“转文”的感觉。
