Argument 10
The following appeared in a letter to the editor of a Batavia newspaper.
"The department of agriculture in Batavia reports that the number of dairy farms throughout the country is now 25 percent greater than it was 10 years ago. During this same time period, however, the price of milk at the local Excello Food Market has increased from $1.50 to over $3.00 per gallon. To prevent farmers from continuing to receive excessive profits on an apparently increased supply of milk, the Batavia government should begin to regulate retail milk prices. Such regulation is necessary to ensure both lower prices and an adequate supply of milk for consumers."

Upon the editor's letter it can be concluded that his conclusion is a very fallacious one.
Through the reports we know the number of dairy farms in Batavia increased 25 percent
compared with 10 yeas ago and the price of milk have double increment at the local Excello
food market. From the above phenomenon the author draw a conclusion upon limiting price
hastefully. He failed to examine several facets about the correlation between the price and
the purvey. I will discuss these facets case by case.
First of all, the 25 percent increment of dairy farms in Batavia cannot show there must be a
same range increase at the local Excello Food Market. However, the fact that double price
suggests a lack of milk or dairy farms at the later. So, there is no necessity between the
above two data.
In addition, the increase of the milk price at the local Excello Food Market does mean the
fast enhancement of consumer or the local consumed exponent possibly. Thus, the author should
consider varies factors what can lead to the increase of milk price at Batavia.
Nor does the mere fact of the double milk price at the local Excello food market lend
significant support to the author's conclusion. It is entirely possible that the milk price
at other areas may be decreased because of the increase of the dairy farms. If really, the
regulation of the retail prices carried out by the Batavia government will frustrate the positivity of the merchant at this region.
In sum, the argument, while it seems logical at first, has several flaws as discussed above.
The regulation of the retail milk prices cannot be implemented without the below investigation:
doing a detailed survey about the milk prices and consumer's satisfaction
degree upon it at all Batavia areas. considering if it has seriously weaken the purchasing power.
Finally, although the discussed above are all at it stands, the regulation in milk prices must
conform the rule of the market.
