第一篇Issue,虚心求拍~~
"Colleges and universities should offer more courses on popular music, film, advertising and television because contemporary culture has much greater relevance for students than do arts and literature of the past."
There is much debate over the issue that whether college or universities should provide much more courses concerning television, popular music or so which seemly has more relevance for sutdents and people instead of traditional arts and literature. On the one hand, some people believe that student could receive more useful information for comtemporary culture; On the other hand, others maintain that the learning of arts and literature of the past must be not ignored due to their unmeasurable value to the society as a whole. In my point of view, whether one has advantages over the other depends on the specific conditions. I would agree that people should find a balance between the study of comtemporary culture and the traditional arts and literature.
To begin with, the learning to arts and literature of the past help people realize the world where they living. By reading various of writings of famous philosophers in the past, people could know the course of the development of the world. By researching the fresco at DunHuang in western part of China, people would know how this old country once well-developed. By reading books written by famous philosophers in Greek, such as Plato, Aristoteles, people could realize what the social value of human in the past is and then how people's social value established as it existence today. All these examples mentioned above support that it is gratuitous to say that arts and literature have little relevance to contemporary world and people.
In addition, the learning of arts and literature allow the society progressing in a relatively high speed. With the rapid development of the society and the continuously advent of new inventions, people could enjoy more convenience from these innovations which must make past people surprise at the thought! Whom people should attribute these achievement to? We should not only thanks to modern scientists in various fields, but also the old wise provides by people in the past, some of which were reflected as the form of art. The very first prototype of a helicopter is designed by no one but Da Vinci,(Michelangelo), one of the most famous artists at the period of The Renaissance. Besides, hundreds of classic writings in the past have been adapted into movies nowadays. In other words, the practice of making excellent films based on famous novels in the past has been going on so long as to constitute a tradition. Troy and other Greek Myths are all served as this kind of example.
Admittedly, contemporary cultuer also plays as much a considerable role in the society as traditional arts and literature do. Hardly could a student achieve his/her university study, if he/she is not able to operate a computer and search information on the internet. Additionally, people, if want to succeed in the society, have to learn more or less about economy, methematics and sociology. Consequently, in that way, people at present should learn contemporary cultuer as well as the knowledge in the past.
In conclusion, while some people may still remain unconvinced, the reason that I have analyzed in above argument should at least make them aware of the complexities of the issue under discussion. There is little doubt that more and more people will come to realize that people should not only aware of the importance of the contemporary cultuer, but also pay enough attention to the learning of useful knowledge in the past.
