In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.

1.电视的诞生和发展使我们的生活发生了天翻地覆的变化，丰富我们的业余生活，缩短了我们与外面世界之间的距离。就人们学习方面来说，电视的作用也非常明显。
2.然而，不能因为电视的普及就忽略了reading books的重要性，因为电视在有些方面还存在着一些问题。
3.Reading books现在依然重要，首先，它不存在电视学习中存在的一些问题。其次，读书除了能避免看电视所带来的问题外，它还有自己的重要性，特别是对于科学的深入研究，不管是自然科学还是社会科学。
Is reading books not important as before in the age of television? The speaker asserts so. The reason is that people can learn as much by watching TV as they can by reading books. Admittedly, TV introduces and transmits so much information and knowledge that it has changed our life totally different from before. However, in my view, it can not yet displace the position of books at the area of learning; even not make reading books less important. Because TV was born with some intrinsic problems and reading books still hold its own merit.
First of all, I concede that with TV being invented and developed, our life has changed drastically. TV does not only enrich our afterhours life, but also makes the distance between ourselves and out world closer and more real. In the terms of study, its function can never be neglected further. TV brings us the latest information more efficiently and actually, such as news and weather condition, so we can prepare the plans to face every-day changes. Meanwhile, some special knowledge would become easier to understand and accept by students if teachers show them those vivid and visual pictures through TV, for example the courses of art, music and dance. And the most important function of TV, in my opinion, is its broad generality. As every normal people, no matter how old he or she is and how many words he or she knows to write, can learn the knowledge and get useful information. For instance, Discovery brings us the same opportunity to learn the unknown world around us. Just from this, TV indeed helps us learning knowledge.
However, the crucial role of reading book should not be ignored in our learning life, because there are some problems in TV. In the first place, those newest information and knowledge brought by TV are lack of deepness and extent about contents, because there are too many messages needed to transmit in the limit time. In the second place, audiences lose the chance to think about the problems during following pace of TV show, so that they can not understand information and knowledge clearly and might lose the habit of thinking at last. At last, TV would be harmful to people. For example, it will hurt our eyes if we staring the screen for a long time. Or people would grow fat easily if they were watching TV without proper moving day after day.
In the other word, reading books is still important nowadays. First, it does not include those problems in watching TV. People can learn some intricate knowledge from simple concepts to advanced research through reading books without any time limitation and people also can digest the knowledge slowly and carefully without any pace disturbing. Meanwhile, reading books is healthier than watching TV, at least there is no radiation for paper. Secondly, reading books has its own special important function in people’s study and learning, especially in the realm of science, including natural and sociopolitical ones. For example, studying Einsteinian’s relativism can not be realized just from TV. And learning history still should read books on which history information is saved, because writing was the only way for ancient persons recorded their life and events.
In sum, reading books is still very important for people learning in the age of television, even though watching TV can get so much information and knowledge. Because watching TV exists some intrinsic problems and reading books holds some special functions in the process of learning.
