October 4th is perhaps one of the least celebrated but the most important anniversaries in the history of science. It was on that date 1836 that Charles Darwin returned to his family home England after 5 years on the HMS Beagle. In the introduction to the origin of species he knows how to structy words but plants of animals he saw on in the South America, and by weather they might help him solve the mystery of how the species became into being. He then shared this straightforward yet profound thought :“On my return home, it occurred to me in 1837 that something might perhaps be made up on this question by patiently accumulating and reflecting on also the facts which could possibly have any bearing on it. In other words, I will get as much information as possibly I can and think about it very deeply for a long time.” 23 years passed between Darwin returned from the sea and the publication of this world-shaking book, the ocean voyage was a crucial foundation, but the long intellectual voyage that led to the theory of revolution truly began when Darwin got back home.
