Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also caused erosion and very quickly deforested whole regions.

  • Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also
  • Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast), which gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but also
  • The systematic clearing of forests in the United States, creating farmland (especially in the Northeast) and giving consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but also
  • The systematic clearing of forests in the United States created farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also
  • The systematic clearing of forests in the United States not only created farmland (especially in the Northeast), giving consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it

In Scotland, the number of wild salmon have been reduced because of uncontrolled deep-sea and costal netting, by pollution, and by various other threats to the fish’s habitat.

  • number of wild salmon have been reduced because of uncontrolled deep-sea and coastal netting
  • number of wild salmon is reduced because deep-sea and coastal netting is not controlled
  • numbers of wild salmon has been reduced because of uncontrolled deep-sea and coastal netting
  • wild salmon’s numbers are reduced by deep-sea and coastal netting that is not controlled
  • wild salmon’s numbers have been reduced by uncontrolled deep-sea and coastal netting
我感觉the number of 更好。

句子含有一个平行结构,by..., by..., and by...
D里that is not controlled啰嗦。

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

第一题,答案肯定在AB,直觉……OTL(既然有not only...but also...

Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also caused erosion and very quickly deforested whole regions.

(A) Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also
(B) Not only did the systematic clearing of forests in the United States create farmland (especially in the Northeast), which gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but also
(C) The systematic clearing of forests in the United States, creating farmland (especially in the Northeast) and giving consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but also
(D) The systematic clearing of forests in the United States created farmland (especially in the Northeast) and gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it also
(E) The systematic clearing of forests in the United States not only created farmland (especially in the Northeast), giving consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture, but it

第一,Not only 后面不可以有 but 的。第二,B 里面的 which gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture 是 create farmland 的后果,不合逻辑。

TOP

可是the number of sth had reduced...from year1 to year2,这种结构不是在GMAT里面很普遍吗?

TOP

TOP

In Scotland, wild salmon’s numbers have been reduced by uncontrolled deep-sea and coastal netting, . . . 。

In Scotland, the numbers of wild salmon have been reduced by . . .)

TOP

TOP

为什么not only后面不能有but?不是有个习惯搭配not only...but also...吗?
                     2.如果像A里面用not only did的话,那后面应该是and gave还是and give呢?

TOP

answer is B

the sentances begining with such "which" with a comma be4 and ends with another comma can just ignore as long as there is a verb..

second question
the question is telling the actual number of the salmon, not the numbers of salmon, which is actually saying a lot of salmon..

Not only is he funny, he is also friendly.

Not only have I seen a Rolls Royce, but I have also ridden in one.

The systematic clearing of forests in the United States created farmland (especially in the Northeast), which gave consumers relatively inexpensive houses and furniture.  However, it caused erosion and very quickly deforested whole regions.
